Woven by Ivan, an artisan from the Luangwa Artisan Collective in Zambia. The baskets are woven from Ibhuma reeds and have a distinctive design with a band of colour around the rim.

Ibhuma reed are locally known as 'bullrush' and are native to the region, prolfic, and often found in dams and waterways where they grow in shallow water. once harevsted and collected, it is taken back to the villages to be dried. The reeds are then plaited or roled to create large balls ready for weaving. Any colour introduced is plant-based using the roots, bark and leaves of plants to create an organic dye.

The artisans from Luangwa Artisan Collective are independent artisans that work out from Tribal Textiles, and all sale proceeds go directly to them and their families. We train those local artists in product development and business skills such as merchandising, accounting and pricing. We work with them to create beautiful products and give them access to local and global market places.
